Sony delivers the Rory Peck Awards Los premios Rory Peck, patrocinados por Sony, se dedican exclusivamente a reconocer la labor de los reporteros gr ficos independientes que trabajan para contar la actualidad a trav s de sus c maras en todo el mundo. Constituidos en 1995 en recuerdo del reportero Rory Peck, asesinado en Mosc en 1993, este prestigioso certamen premia el talento y el esfuerzo de estos reporteros.
Los Premios Rory Peck han rendido homenaje en la noche del mi rcoles al trabajo de los reporteros gr ficos independientes dedicados a las noticias y la actualidad en una concurrida ceremonia presentada por Christiane Amanpour de la CNN y ABC News y James Mates de ITV News, en el recinto del BFI en el Southbank londinense.
El Premio Rory Peck en la categor a de noticias fue para el joven reportero independiente brit nico Aris Roussinos por Ground Zero Mali: The Battle of Gao: un reportaje autofinanciado emitido por VICE. Este material muestra las sorprendentes batallas callejeras en Gao, en el norte de Mali en febrero de 2013 mientras el ej rcito de Mali intenta liberar los edificios tomados por los islamistas del grupo MUJAO. No es muy habitual conseguir este tipo de grabaciones de un combate, y en ellas puede apreciarse la evidente falta de formaci n y disciplina militar del ej rcito de Mali, as como la falta de equipos y t cticas en una confusa y ca tica batalla. El jurado alab la fuerza de la grabaci n de Roussinos y lo cerca que trabaj del ej rcito de Mali: se sumergi en las batallas y consigui grabar algunos momentos que por raro que parezca en medio de una guerra parecen hasta c micos. Es una grabaci n cl sica de guerra, un periodismo televisivo fant stico que apenas necesita un gui n porque est incre blemente bien grabado .
El Premio Rory Peck en la categor a de mejor reportaje fue para el cineasta brit nico independiente Olly Lambert por Syria: Across the Lines, encargado por Dispatches en Channel 4 y emitido en esta misma cadena. Olly pas un total de cinco semanas en el valle del r o Orontes para documentar la vida en las aldeas de ambos lados del r o y en los lados opuestos de la guerra. Su pel cula revela c mo el conflicto est dividiendo una comunidad pac fica y termina con el resultado devastador de un doble ataque a reo en el pueblo de los rebeldes donde mueren al menos 17 personas. Los jueces describieron la pel cula como una aut ntica pieza memorable de la televisi n . Uno de ellos coment : Se trata de una grabaci n sorprendente; el trabajo realizado con la c mara es fant stico. Plasm mediante un documental visual una situaci n de noticia ca tica. Ofrece mucha informaci n sobre el estado de guerra en Siria, en general y el caos que la guerra conlleva con un toque muy humano .
El Premio Sony al impacto profesional fue para los reporteros independientes banglades es Soumen Guha y Dipak Chandra Sutradhar por Hazaribagh: Toxic Leather, producido por Wild Angle (WA) Productions para Public Senat, Ushuaia TV y La Locale. Soumen y Dipak fingieron estar realizando un anuncio para una empresa francesa de pieles para conseguir acceso a la curtidur a llena de maquinaria antigua y en mal estado en Hazaribagh a las afueras de Dhaka. Su pel cula es una prueba evidente de las terribles y miserables condiciones en las que trabajan el medio mill n de personas en las f bricas donde se utilizan productos t xicos que causan c ncer y otras enfermedades que matan a la mayor a antes de los cincuenta a os. La piel producida es para productos baratos como cinturones y bolsos que se venden en Europa. El jurado afirm que se trataba de una pel cula rodada de forma inteligente con algunas secuencias inolvidables . Estos reporteros independientes se arriesgaron para conseguir bien la historia bajo la mirada de los propietarios de la f brica. Al meterse en esta situaci n se expusieron a peligros f sicos. Consiguieron una grabaci n sorprendente de una industria incre blemente nociva; solo de verlo me picaba la piel .
El reportero independiente azerbaiyano Idrak Abbasov consigui el premio Martin Adler de este a o, patrocinado por Hexagon, que rinde homenaje al trabajo de un reportero local independiente que ha contribuido de forma importante a la recopilaci n de noticias. El objetivo del premio es destacar la dedicaci n y el talento de los profesionales que trabajan en circunstancias dif ciles y complicadas dentro de su propio pa s. Azerbaiy n ha experimentado una creciente restricci n en la libertad de prensa y los ataques contra periodistas en los ltimos a os han aumentado; Idrak ha trabajado con una dedicaci n persistente para cubrir historias para una amplia variedad de medios de comunicaci n independientes como prensa escrita, online, radio y televisi n. En abril de 2012, Idrak qued en situaci n cr tica tras el ataque a golpes que le dej inconsciente durante la grabaci n de las protestas por la demolici n de unas casas en Bak , llevadas a cabo por la petrolera estatal SOCAR, y estuvo varios meses en el hospital sin poder trabajar. Sin embargo, cuando surgieron las protestas violentas en la ciudad de Ismayilli en enero, Idrak dej a un lado sus preocupaciones personales para grabar im genes que l consideraba que los otros ciudadanos y el mundo entero necesitaban ver. El material fue emitido en obyectiv.tv. El gobernador fue posteriormente despedido. Se otorg el premio a Idrak en reconocimiento a su inspiraci n, valent a, compostura y determinaci n para cubrir eventos en las circunstancias m s dif ciles.
