New at RTLs Nachtjournal: CNN Correspondent Fred Pleitgen strengens the presenter line up of RTLs nightly news magazine -

Monday 20 May 2013: Frederik Pleitgen, Berlin correspondent of the leading international news channel CNN will also shortly now be working for RTL. From May, the 36 year old will present the RTL Nachtjournal for a week each month in addition to his ongoing work for CNN. Ilka E m ller remains the main presenter of the RTL news magazine at midnight, with Isabelle K rner from N-TV continuing her existing role in the anchoring roster. Pleitgen's first week anchoring RTL Nachtjournal' begins tomorrow, Tuesday May 21st.

Fred Pleitgen, born in Cologne and son of the former WDR head Fritz Pleitgen, has worked for N-TV in the past after his studies among others at the New York University School of Journalism. From 2000 till the beginning of 2006 he worked at N-TV as reporter and show producer. He's been at CNN since the end of 2006 on the German political, business and cultural beat from Berlin, and additionally reports from around the world for the network's news and documentary output. Most recently, he reported from Damascus on Israels air strikes. Earlier stints included Iraq, Afghanistan and undercover reporting in Myanmar. He also covered the Arab Spring in 2011 from Libya. Fred Pleitgen was part of the team that won an Emmy in 2012 for its live coverage of the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak.
