Story Highlights

Two months ago, ESPN and the National Hockey League partnered on a special alternative broadcast during the New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals matchup on March 14. Based on Disney's Big City Greens property, the event featured both teams, referees, on-air talent, and more in a fully animated environment.

At the 2023 SVG Sports Graphics Forum, NHL's EVP, Business Development and Innovation, David Lehanski, and ESPN's Director, Business Development & Innovation, Zack Malet, discuss the behind-the-scenes planning that went into the broadcast, the workflows that powered this unique setting, the feedback heard from the sports community, and what versions of this activation may be in the future.
