South American Broadcaster Deploys TVUPack

RCN TV in Colombia has deployed TVUPack 3G/4G/LTE cellular ENG solutions to deliver live video of events from multiple countries to Colombian audiences.

As one of the largest private broadcasters in Colombia, RCN TV has developed a reputation as one of the leading broadcast organizations in all of Latin America. RCN leveraged the TVUPack Global Rental Program to deliver live video from several events around the world, including a half marathon in the Colombian capital Bogot , the Papal visit to several cities in Brazil and a high profile track and field competition in Moscow, Russia.

TVUPack is a powerful and cost-effective live video transmission solution. We used the TVUPack to increase our live capabilities, and the portable backpack enabled us to get unique live shots that took us closer to the action than we could have accomplished with an SNG truck.

According to Juan Esquivel, Contributions Chief Engineer at RCN, TVUPack delivered a number of benefits, including its easy one-button operation, its flexibility to deliver video from any location and its affordable cost.

With TVUPack, we had a quick and easy way to get our shots, and it was very user-friendly, he said. Our photographers found that it was easy to operate, and they loved the longer battery life in the system. The engineers in our central production facility also found that the TVU receiver had an intuitive user interface and delivered terrific picture quality. The backpack was also a great economic decision and allowed us to go live from several countries for a low cost.

Due to its success using TVUPack, RCN TV plans on using the solution to broadcast future live events. Covering these big events in the first part of the year is a good start, said Coral. We plan on taking TVUPack as a first option to future events.

The TVUPack Global Rental Program enables broadcasters to deploy TVUPack transmitters to cover live events worldwide. The program has been used to cover a number of high profile events including the Olympics, Confederations Cup, World Cup, prominent elections, the 2013 Papal conclave, breaking global news events and more.
