China s first underground digital library put into operation in Ningbo

An underground digital library began operation at three stations in Ningbo on Jan 27. Zemin, Gulou and Yinhua Park stations on the city's Subway Line 1 have all been installed with the library the first of its kind in China.

During trial operations, the Ningbo Rail Transit Group entrusted the website ChineseALL, one of the leading digital publication companies in China, with the task of building the reading machines and incorporating customization into them.

Housed inside the white terminal machines, are 3,000 books and 500 audio books, as well as a 20-gigabyte resource pool of Chinese traditional culture and 100 classic films.

Users can download the resources by using USB flash disks, scanning QR codes with phones or they can simply read on the machines.

After setting up the mobile app Micro-study , users can download the books immediately by scanning codes, without phone traffic. Thus, passengers can read or listen to books whilst on, or waiting for subway trains.

The cloud platform of the digital library integrates over 50,000 books, 30,000 talking books, 3,800 kinks of periodicals and 500,000 minutes of video, introduced by a staff member in the subway. In the future, passengers will have access to the cloud platform and enjoy more choices.
