Tunisian film wins AiM Short Film Competition --

Africa in Motion (AiM) Film Festival is delighted to announce that the winner of this year s Short Film Competition, as chosen by a jury of acclaimed film practitioners and academics, is My Shoes. Directed by Tunisian filmmaker Anis Lassoued, the semi- animated film transports the audience into the dream world of a nine-year-boy who loves to run.

AiM jury member (and last years Short Film Competition winner) Rungano Nyoni said of My Shoes: I was impressed by the incredible naturalistic and touching performances. It gave us a real cinematic, heartfelt and authentic story .

Noe Mendelle praised the film s creative ingenuity, inspired casting, use of reality, humanity, clarity of storytelling and poetic ending .

Zina Saro-Wiwa loved the restlessness, desperation and desire that permeated the piece. Very affecting indeed. Wonderful stuff.

David Archibald said of this years Short Film Competition selection, Great films I enjoyed watching them all .

Paul Dale agreed, commenting, Its a fantastically strong line-up of short films this year .

For the sixth consecutive year, AiM invited African filmmakers to submit short films of up to 30 minutes for its annual Short Film Competition. From the impressive array of submissions, five films were shortlisted, comprising a diverse and captivating collection of work from across the continent that are representative of the dynamic and progressive filmmaking in contemporary Africa.

The Short Film Competition is part of AiM s commitment to nurturing young African filmmaking talent, offering a cash prize of £1,000 to the winning film courtesy of our prize money sponsors Buni TV and The Africa Channel. The winner was selected by our jury of acclaimed film practitioners and academics: Rungano Nyoni (filmmaker and winner of the 2012 Short Film Competition), Noe Mendelle (director of the Scottish Documentary Institute), Zina Saro-Wiwa (Nigerian filmmaker), Paul Dale (writer) and David Archibald (lecturer in Film Studies at the University of Glasgow). Audiences in both Glasgow and Edinburgh will also have the opportunity to vote for their favourite films with the Audience Award winners announced at the closing screenings of the festival, where both the jury winning film and the audience s favourite will be screened again.
