SEACAUCUS, N.J. Opening Day brought more than the start of a new baseball season, it also has the debut of MLB Network's new Studio 21. Named in honor of Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, Studio 21 is 8,000 square feet and will house three daily shows: MLB Central, MLB Now and Quick Pitch.
The studio will feature 1,400 square feet of video wall displays, which are made up of more than 1,100 12x16 LED tiles. Israel-based Orad has supplied the studio with its Orad TD Control system to process all content displayed on the video walls and plasma monitors. Orad TD offers real-time 3D graphics and transmissions, full program/preview confidence monitoring and is able to be managed by a single operator for all studio display content through a touch screen GUI.
The MLB Network worked with Orad, Big Studios and Motion Path for augmented-reality graphics for extended-studio perception, which means that pieces of the set act as windows with the LED displays behind the scenery.
