The Bulls players wore special DURM jerseys created by local designer Runaway for the June 9th game.
The Durham Bulls debuted jerseys by a Bull City designer at their home game on Thursday, June 9, 2016. Created by Runaway Founder/Creative Director Gabriel Eng-Goetz, a Durham native, and his team the DURM jerseys serve as a tribute to the legacy of the Bulls as well as to the city itself. As an added bonus, the jerseys benefited baseball for the city's kids as well. After the game the DURM jerseys were auctioned off with proceeds going to the Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League. Talk about a win-win-win!
The game and the jersey auction were great, said DBBC Director of Communications Matt Sutor. Durham came out to represent its city as we had a sellout crowd of 10,104 on hand to see the Bulls win 3-2 in comeback fashion. All 37 jerseys were auctioned off, and over $5,000 will be contributed to the DBYAL. Overall, it was a perfect night at the DBAP.
Runaway designs feature a term they coined, Durm, the local pronunciation of the Durm. The shirts and gear featuring the term have become popular. The Bulls had been using the term as a hashtag: #DURM. A friend of the designers reached out online to the Bulls, suggesting the Runaway guys design a jersey, and the rest is social media history.
