Founded in Bergamo (North of Italy) back in 1873, Nuovo Istituto Italiano dArti Grafiche (NIIAG) is renowned for producing books, magazines and catalogues. Part of the global group Be Printers , together with sister companies Eurogravure, Arti Grafiche Johnson and Distriberg, NIIAG turns over Euros 72 million per year, has 280 staff and premises with an area of 62.000 m2.
Nuovo Istituto Italiano dArti Grafiche specialises in offset, roto-offset and flexographic printing and boasts an end-to-end and fully integrated production environment comprising of pre-press equipment, sheet-fed, web-offset and gravure presses, as well as a finishing department. Its customer base includes some of the most famous Italian publishing houses, such as RCS, Editoriale Domus and Universo.
The company is committed to satisfying its customers changing demands, which includes continuously meeting the highest print quality standards. Marco Patelli, purchasing manager at NIIAG, explains: In the past few years, the market has become increasingly competitive, making it pivotal to invest in the most advanced technology to ensure we deliver outstanding products and services.
He continues: People frequently ask for low print volumes with short turnaround times, and only a strong and efficient production environment will allow us to achieve this result.
In 2013, NIIAG undertook a review of its production facility with a focus on pre-press. Marco says: We were keen to optimise our plate imaging and production process to reduce remake times and increase efficiency. Our key objective was to become more competitive and flexible in both short/medium and long run production.
He adds: We immediately turned to Fujifilm as a leading company in this field, and we were soon amazed with the team's profound technical knowledge and ability to understand our specific needs.
The company chose one of Fujifilms lo-chem' solutions, and invested in a FLH-Z ZAC' processor plus Brillia HD LH-PXE plates. The combination of the latest plate and chemistry technologies turned out to be the perfect solution for NIIAG.
Marco was particularly impressed by the longevity and performance of the LH-PXE plate: The new plate fits perfectly in our production environment. Compared to our previous solution, it is a lot more stable and offers much longer run lengths without compromising on quality. Fujifilms Brillia HD LH-PXE plate is also extremely robust, withstanding the stresses placed on it during long runs, and guaranteeing consistent results. This investment has already proved to be excellent value for money.
Marco comments: The introduction of Fujifilm's Brillia HD LH-PXE plates together with FLH-Z ZAC' processor allows us to be more competitive. Not only have we reduced the need for plate remakes, but we have also significantly extended our print runs. The switch has ultimately allowed us to improve our production workflow and optimise costs.
Marco is also extremely complimentary about the support offered by Fujifilm. He stresses: The product offering is not the only element we consider when choosing a supplier. We are demanding in the selection of our partners, as wed like them to be as supportive as possible. We are absolutely delighted with the service we've had from Fujifilm and we highly value their consultancy approach.
He concludes: Fujifilm has demonstrated that they're not only concerned about making a sale, but genuinely care about providing the best advice and ongoing support to their customers. This investment marks the start of a long lasting working relationship with them.
