Cache-A Highlights Accelerated Archiving At NAB 04 (Boo #SL907)

Cache-A Corporation, manufacturer of award-winning archiving appliances for the media and entertainment industry, will show accelerated archiving capabilities plus new LTFS LTO-6 archive appliances at NAB 2014 Las Vegas - Cache-A Booth #SL9027. Making their US debuts are several brand new, ground-breaking innovations for faster LTO-tape and LTFS (Linear Tape File System) archival, delivering enhanced productivity and greater levels of asset protection.

Debuts and highlights include: new Workflow Templates with Incremental Archiving; Pro-Cache610, the new, turbo-charged version of Cache-A's flagship Pro-Cache6 LTO-6 archive appliance; new, modular Library80 expansion option; plus the very latest advances in Hub & Spoke LTFS interchange and delivery workflow. A further highlight on the showfloor is Simul-Copy , Cache-A's speedy LTO-tape duplication and verification capability.

Workflow Templates & Incremental Archiving: Cache-A will unveil new key software features - Workflow Templates and Incremental Archiving - that can be used to easily and quickly automate a range of regular, essential and time-consuming LTO-tape archive tasks, and deliver greater levels of asset protection.

Library80 Archive Expansion Option: Cache-A's new 6U, rack-mountable Library80 Expansion Option, can hold up to 80 LTO-5 or LTO-6 tapes, increasing archive capacity to 200TB. However, Cache-A has plans to exploit the modular design of the appliance, which allows it to be easily scaled in 80-tape increments, to a total of 560 tape-slots. This makes for a total native capacity of 1.4PB in a single 19-inch rack. This scale-up architecture allows users to pay as they grow, by simply adding in additional modules to boost capacity and performance without investing in a whole new library.

Pro-Cache610 - turbo-charged archiving: Cache-A will debut Pro-Cache610, with 10GbE connectivity, allowing high-speed, network-attached archiving at over 150MB/s. It is particularly well-suited to archiving operations where massive amounts of data are generated every day. Pro-Cache610 comes with 6TB internal HDD RAID 0 or RAID 1 disk-cache storage, and LTO-6 cartridges can hold up to 2.5TB of data natively. It is rack-mountable, integrates with Cache-A LTO-6 library and sidecar expansion units, as well as third-party robotic systems, and is also easily deployed in on-set carts.

Hub & Spoke - Enhanced LTFS Interchange & Delivery: Cache-A is focusing on efficient hub and spoke delivery workflows, where remote content creators provide delivery to larger central data repositories. Tape has been growing in importance for these applications and Cache-A's hub and spoke initiatives are leading the way to facilitate this.

Based on collaborative work with Discovery Channel, Cache-A appliances can format LTFS tapes to all three of Discovery's delivery specifications. This includes automatically placing metadata.xml files in the index partition and automatically building MD5 checksum files for graphics, audio and program content. The metadata file can be easily restored later, slashing access time.

Cache-A is also partnering with Crossroads Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRDS) to offer users the option to utilize the Strongbox Seed Format when recording LTFS formatted data. This innovative concept enables users to archive locally and feed tapes to a centralized archive center in a highly-efficient workflow.

Simul-Copy - fast, simultaneous LTO-tape duplication: Simul-Copy harnesses advanced replication technology developed by Cache-A. It enables users to simultaneously make multiple tar or LTFS LTO-tapes copies, rather than sequential copies, at close to the same speed as a single copy. It works with Cache-A's LTO-4, LTO-5 and latest LTO-6 generation appliances. Using Simul-Copy, Power-Cache systems can create up to four simultaneous LTO-tape copies, while Pro-Cache models can create two simultaneous LTO-tape copies. Copy drives can be in Cache-A's Library24, Library48, Library 80 accessories, in rackmount expansion chassis, or Cache-A's newly released LTO-Sidecar expansion drive.
