StorageDNAs Tridib Chakravarty to Present at SMPTE 04: LTFS Transforms LTO Into Nearline Storage

StorageDNA, Inc., a leader in intelligent nearline and archiving workflow solutions for media professionals, today announced that the company's CEO and president, Tridib Chakravarty, will present at the SMPTE 2014 Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition , held October 20-23, 2014 in Hollywood, CA.

In his presentation titled, LTFS Transforms LTO tape into Nearline Storage: Accelerating 4K Media Workflows, Chakravarty will examine the mechanics of a new direct access technology and how it leverages the disk-like capabilities of Linear Tape File System (LTFS) technology to gain free, open, and direct access to content on Linear Tape-Open (LTO) tape. He will provide insight into how eliminating restores and enabling direct access to archival storage can improve workflow and storage efficiencies across the entire media creation and distribution pipeline.

HD, 4K and UHD content, and higher frame rates have caused an explosion of content in today's file-based pipelines, said Chakravarty. With much of this data stored on LTO tape, there is a great opportunity to leverage LTO as a direct access, no restore storage medium by deploying new direct access workflows using a combination of intelligent pre-caching software combined with LTFS' file system capabilities. I look forward to discussing the impact that this will have on accelerating file-based workflows for repurposing and monetizing content.

Earlier, Chakravarty was part of the initial team at Panasas that developed PanFS, one of the world's most advanced clustered file systems. He earned his BS and MS degrees in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.

Chakravarty's presentation at SMPTE 2014 is part of the Asset Management-Part 1 track and will be delivered on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in Salon 1 of the Ray Dolby Ballroom at the Hollywood & Highland complex.
