TV3, i2CAT and Cellnex presented the conclusions of the TV-Ring project on connected TV The TV-Ring project has developed three pilots television plugged in different countries of the European Union. The catalan rider has served to confirm that the emission of certain content in multi-camera format has an interest clear among users.

The European project TV-Ring, in which participated Televisi de Catalunya (TV3), Cellnex Telecom and the I2CAT Foundationcoming to an end. On May 19, it was held in Leuven (Belgium) the final review of the Tv-Ring research project, co-funded by the European Union. This Act had as purpose the presentation of the results obtained in the project before the representatives of the European Commission. Just in the last few days that the result of this evaluation, which has been widely been known positive.

The TV-Ring project has developed three pilots television plugged in different countries of the Union. Apart from the catalan rider in which have participated in TV3, Cellnex and i2CAT other partners have carried out pilot tests in the area of Berlin-Brandenburg (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg) and the Netherlands (Stichting Nederlandse Publieke Omroep).

The main objective of the project has been to create and demonstrate advanced television connected scenarios based on HbbTV standard and high capacity as support connection infrastructure. Within the catalan pilot project, completed a test suite live and pre-recorded, initially centered in the town of Gurb, in the comarca of Osona, but finally opened the HbbTV audience in general. These tests have offered services multi-camera on very diverse content: music, parties soccer, debates and special news programs.

The catalan TV-Ring project pilot has served to confirm that the emission of certain content in multi-camera format has an interest clear among users. For example, serve as an indicator the fact that during the testing in open of the pilot in the broadcast of matches of the Champions League has tripled the number of accesses to the service of HbbTV of the Corporaci Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals (CCMA) with respect to the daily average.

The use of the second screen in the project has also demonstrated its great usefulness and acceptance, not only from the point of view of complementary or additional consumption in this device, but also as a remote control for the content that you want to see on the TV screen. This concept opens up a range of possibilities in the application control HbbTV in the TV, using the touchscreen tablet or mobile and flexible applications that largely exceed the limitations of traditional remote control.

On the other hand the catalan rider of TV-Ring also highlighted the lack of maturity of the HbbTV environment, both in reference to the emission of contents multi-camera synchronization between devices. This fact is due to the low implementation in the market of the latest versions of the standard. In this sense, the CTE, as a member of the HbbTV Association, being the results of the pilot TV-Ring to the Improving Interoperability Task Force Group of the HbbTV, to collaborate in the improvement of the compatibility with receivers HbbTV.
