Lots of spooky entertainment is lurking in the line-up of the ninth South African Horrorfest, which takes place from 30 October to 8 November in Cape Town.

Movies, short film screenings, eerie guests, a live soundtrack performance, a Halloween-themed dress-up, an alternative market, free sneak previews, prizes and giveaways are on offer at various venues.

Movies

In Cape Town, from 1 to 8 November at The Labia Theatre and on 31 October at Ster-Kinekor Cavendish Square screenings of classics, rarities, indies and underground films as well as a free sneak preview of American supernatural horror film, Insidious Chapter 2, on Halloween night feature as part of the line-up.

Still to be confirmed are the screenings of 19312 Dracula and Frankensteins Army at The Bioscope Independent Cinema on 1 and 2 November as part of Johannesburg s addition to the festival.

Other movie highlights include:

Reanimated Nazi film Frankenstein s Army, linked with the Halloween dress-up competition on 1 November.

Broken with producer and lead actress audience interaction on 3 November.

The 1923 silent classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame with a Makabra Ensemble live soundtrack performance on 6 November. For more information on this experience visit www.terminatryx.com/makabra.

An audience participation screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show to close the event on 8 November.

Eight hours of international short films in four feature-length collections, titled Shadow Realm Short Films.

SA-born Richard Stanley s mysterious documentary, The Otherworld.

Dracula, the 1931 Bela Lugosi classic.

All movie tickets cost R35, excluding the Hunchback of Notre Dame live soundtrack performance which costs R50, and the Insidious Chapter 2 preview, which is free.

Halloween dress-up

On Friday 1 November at 20h30, the official Horrorfest Halloween dress-up competition takes place in conjunction with the screening of Frankensteins Army. Prizes include a DVD collection form Ster-Kinekor, Next, Nu Metro and Global Discs.

Mixas on Kloof Street, Cape Town is the location for the after party where festival posters from the last nine years will be on display.

Zombie Walk
