Netflix Announces Its 2022 Programming - 25 Productions Reflecting French Creation's Richness and Diversity

The Netflix France creative team presents the French productions to be discovered this year, reflecting French creation's richness and diversity. A total of 25 new titles launched in 2022 and 20 titles in production, selected and developed by the Netflix France creative team, for a total investment of more than 200 million euros in 2022.

Paris, March 10 - Netflix unveils its ambitions for French productions, with 25 titles programmed in 2022. More than ever, this years projects embody French creation - in all its diversity.

Projects highlight new voices carrying today's stories

Netflix is highlighting new voices carrying today's stories. Starting with Romain Gavras directing Athena, an immersive and modern tragedy played by Dali Benssalah, Sami Slimane, Anthony Bajon and co-written by Ladj Ly. Netflix is also announcing two new projects being filmed this year: En Place, a series co-created by Jean-Pascal Zadi and Fran ois Uzan, a new comedy with a unique style, and Le Roi des Ombres, directed by Marc Fouchard, based on an original idea by Kaaris and which, through a gallery of characters, draws inspiration from an ancestral African legend and transposes it onto todays France.

A look at French cultural phenomena

Through its films, series and documentaries, Netflix is shedding new light on French cultural phenomena. As with Standing Up, the new Fanny Herrero series, which takes us behind the fictional scenes of the Stand-Up world.

But also Rhythm + Flow France, a rap competition celebrating the hip-hop movement in an unprecedented way, going in search of its future new faces between Paris, Marseille and Brussels - all served by an exceptional jury consisting of Niska, Shay and SCH.

Stories that have marked our society

From fiction to reality, the titles developed by the Netflix France team are rooted in stories that have shaped French people's collective memory, such as the Notre-Dame fire, staged by Herv Hadmar in the series Notre Dame, or the documentary series Johnny Hallyday: Beyond Rock which lets the artist tell his own story, through decades of unpublished archives. Also, two cases that have made lasting impressions: a documentary film on Carlos Ghosn, from his epic escape from Japan to his complex personality and his unique destiny, as well as the documentary series looking back on the story of Ra l, and his thousands of followers in 104 countries around the world.

Projects illustrating French savoir faire

In 2022, Netflix productions will also pay tribute to genres popular with French audiences. Starting with pure-tradition action film and its spectacular stunts with Lost Bullet 2, the second part of Guillaume Pierrets trilogy. This is also the case for action comedy and its major figures, with The Takedown, directed by Louis Leterrier, bringing together the iconic duo Omar Sy - Laurent Lafitte. Finally, Dangerous Liaisons, a contemporary and teenage adaptation of the eponymous novel, the first film by Rachel Suissa, shot in Biarritz.

And, of course, fans will have the pleasure of once again finding four of their iconic series in the coming months: Stranger Things, Bridgerton, Peaky Blinders and The Crown.
