Embarrassing Health Questions MIX's Sarah King Isn't Afraid to Ask: New Podcast From CBC

Her last name might be King, but MIX Mornings' Sarah King is the Queen of Queries on a novel new podcast recently launched on the CBC Podcast Network. Sarah Has Questions is about the health and medical questions you may be too embarrassed to ask your doctor. Luckily, Sarah is not afraid.

I started this podcast after interview Wake Med doctors for 1 minute ads on MIX, explained King. With each doctor it never failed that as soon as the mics were turned off, I would start firing off questions that I had about their specialty. I was shocked after each of these off-mic conversations the amount of information we don't get from our doctors because we have such limited time with them. And for subjects like Menopause or Sex, there is so much we don't even know to ask! I have gotten so much positive feedback on this project, and I am so excited for others to find it on their podcast apps.

Expert doctors from WakeMed answer Sarah's totally unfiltered questions on everything from birth control to bowels on the new podcast. Each episode focuses on a different health topic. Most are related to women's health, but there are also some broad topics that affect everyone. The first episode was about poop!

The goal here is to demystify some of the topics that might be embarrassing to talk about, or even ask your doctor about, said Corp Director of Podcast Operations Anita Normanly. Every episode we've produced has started with a simple question like Is it OK for my knees to pop and make noise'? From there we brainstorm loads of questions that Sarah hurls at the doctors. So far, all the doctors from WakeMed have been very open to the format. Their candor and Sarah's lack of a filter make for great conversations.

Sarah is the perfect host for this. She's smart, curious, authentic and completely fearless.

It's easily become one of my favorite parts of my job, said Pearson working on and promoting the podcast.

Pearson continued Our brainstorming feels a bit like girl talk' with friends, typically Sarah or Anita will mention our next topic we will be recording, and we go back and forth about any questions we've had to ask the doctor about the topic- whether it's about poop, periods, bones, or sex we candidly discuss all the taboo' things that women typically feel we can't discuss which I find super important. I typically turn to reddit or friends after our meetings to get more inspiration on our topics and send Sarah a list of questions from all the sources I can find.

Content-wise, we want to tackle subjects that we know are relatable to everyone that many people would have questions about - but might be too afraid to ask about. In short, lots of weird stuff happens to us as humans, and we want real answers to our questions. Not 10 minutes of doctor speak' no one understands.

It's equal parts hilarious and informative. Big shout-out to Sarah, this was her vision I am so proud of her and our team for bringing this amazing idea to life!

Locally, it's a great partnership with WakeMed, but the podcast could also reach a broad audience beyond our market, she said. We are having so much fun producing it. I don't think we'll ever run out of topics!

Pearson is also proud to be a part of the project.

I personally find this super rewarding, said Pearson. I think it's important to highlight very normal things that women experience daily but feel too ashamed to talk about, and Sarah does a great job of presenting this while making us all comfortable.

She concluded, I've learned a lot- like how doctors aren't trained on anything regarding menopause, or how heart attacks were only studied on men so all abnormal' symptoms are simply the symptoms women go through, and so much more. It's educational, and we've received an abundance of feedback from our audience who equally find this important to share and discuss so we can all be aware of the messages our bodies are trying to send us!
