25 June 2014 Award-winning media company, UKTV has commissioned a third series of the hugely successful David Attenborough's Natural Curiosities for its flagship subscription entertainment channel Watch. The 6x30' series will be produced by Humble Bee Films and once again unites Watch with Britain's most loved naturalist and presenter.
In this series Sir David continues to shine the spotlight on some of nature's most extraordinary and baffling species. Each episode features two unique creatures with curiously distinctive adaptations that link together with a common theme. From fleas and cheetahs, an unlikely pairing but both are incredible animal athletes, to blue whales and flamingos, which are beautiful creatures that share the trait of having very unusual diets. For this series Sir David will be entering the enclosure of an anaconda, meeting some friendly orang-utans and studying the behaviour of the ravens at the Tower of London.
UKTV's Catherine Catton commented,
It is such a privilege to work with Sir David; his captivating storytelling and the fascinating content has made both series of David Attenborough's Natural Curiosities a massive hit with viewers.
Series two of David Attenborough's Natural curiosities reached 2.1m individuals, with the two back to back premiere episodes performing 61% above slot average on Watch. The third series has been commissioned by UKTV's Senior Commissioning Editor, Catherine Catton and Stephen Dunleavy from Humble Bee Films is the executive producer for the series. David Attenborough's Natural Curiosities will TX in Q1 2015.
UKTV's General Manager of Watch Steve North said We are delighted to have the broadcasting legend Sir David Attenborough back on the channel for a third series. The stories and creatures featured in the series are even more fascinating, mysterious, and magical. This programme allows Sir David to travel across the UK to explore animal oddities that other TV programmes simply do not cover.
Stephen Dunleavy added,
It's a real joy to be making our third series of Natural Curiosities for UKTV Watch. Both series one and two received a great response from viewers and now David Attenborough will reveal six more wonderful tales of curious creatures - from the tiny flea to the giant blue whale.
UKTV's Watch has enjoyed a strong start to 2014 with adult share up 14% year-on-year. More than 14m individuals tune into the channel every month, helping to make UKTV the fastest growing non-PSB broadcaster in Britain. UKTV's award-winning network of 10 channels reaches over 42 million viewers a month.
