Significant Electricity Savings at Telekom Slovenije Ljubljana, 14 December Quality is and must remain the Telekom Slovenije Group's comparative advantage. To that end, in parallel with the restructuring of business processes, we will be implementing a system of quality assurance and business excellence. Its measurable goal is to qualify for the nomination for the business excellence award in terms of the most demanding European EFQM model by the end of 2015. We will of course maintain and build on the companys overall responsibility and sustainable development, which includes the goal of a 5% reduction in energy consumption by the end of 2013 as compared with 2009 levels. This is stated in the Telekom Slovenije Group's Strategic Business Plan for 20122016.

Telekom Slovenije first received the ISO 14001 Environmental Certificate in 2007, which proves that we have been systematically practicing responsible environmental practices. We have confirmed our commitment to environmental protection by signing the European Telecommunications Network Operators Association (ETNO) document. ETNO has a Section for Sustainable and Environmental Development, for providing guidelines for environmental development and improvement. We develop and implement business processes with which we protect the environment and preserve natural resources. Careful tracking of our consumption of electricity and other resources naturally goes hand in hand. The results of those actions were evident.

Over the past years we have reduced electricity consumption years by almost 2.5% annually. In the past ten months, electricity consumption was reduced by 3.1 percent. During this period, 65,226,091 kWh of electricity were used, while in the same period last year that number was 67,279,333 kWh. These trends are expected to continue in the future, which makes the goals set for the end of 2013 completely feasible.

As part of the struggle to reduce electricity consumption, earlier this year Telekom Slovenije built and connected to an electricity network of 7 photovoltaic solar power plants with a combined power of 210 kWh. The focus is on investigating the options of own electricity generation and an end-to-end focus on renewable energy sources. Two plants are on Vojkova and Litostrojska in Ljubljana and on Kolodvorska in Koper. Another new addition is the power plant on the base station in Tropovci, while last year also the first self-sufficient base station was installed in Podkraj. We will be using the produced electricity ourselves, and any surplus will be sold to the public electricity network. With this Telekom Slovenije joins other European telecommunication carriers, who emphasize the need for reduction and optimization of electricity use.

In the same year Telekom Slovenije began the process of obtaining the ISO 50001 certificate, which requires a system for efficient energy use. The plans are for the system to be certified next year, and upgraded by implementing an IT energy management system. Along with other obtained certificates, the company will be prepared to apply for the European Foundation for a Quality Management (EFQM) Excellence Award by 2015. Business excellence is, however, not a means to an end. It especially entails improved services and a relationship with the user and the environment that we all depend on, and in which we live.

In the past few days Telekom Slovenije successfully passed all the regular audits of international standards (ISO 14001 at Telekom Slovenije, 9001 and 14001 at GVO), and the preliminary audit for the energy management system SIST EN ISO 50001.
