A total of 238 birds were awarded, four of which were Grands Prix - to Draftfcb Cape Town, Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town, MetropolitanRepublic and FoxP2 respectively.
The CTICC was given a makeover and 50m of red carpet action for the 35th Annual Loerie Awards which took place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September 2013 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The first of the Grand Prix winners was awarded to Draftfcb Cape Town for Engens Fire Blanket Calendar, in the Alternative Media & Field Marketing category. Judge Goetz Ulmer said it was chosen because it was simple, uniquely [South] African and just made sense!
Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town won a well-deserved Grand Prix for stand out work in Volkswagens Street Quest campaign to clinch top honours in the Digital & Interactive - Social Media category.
The second of the two night award ceremonies, honouring the categories of Effective Creativity, Media Innovation, Radio, Integrated Campaigns as well as the hotly contested Film, TV and Video category was opened by DA Parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko.
The Grand Prix winners were a Media Innovation Award to MetropolitanRepublic for their landmark MTN Uganda Project, which sees children able to scan posters to download books on their smartphones and to FoxP2 for a radio ad titled Death Doesnt Have To Try Very Hard on behalf of Frank.net Life Insurance.
A special Loeries Hall of Fame award was bestowed on Graham Warsop, CEO and founder of The Jupiter Drawing Room. On receiving his award Warsop said that he was so happy to be in an agency, in an industry, in a country, where all things are possible to those who believe.
The awards were judged by over 140 local and international experts in their fields, who referred to the general high standard of work they had seen during the course of the judging processes, with the caveat to all from from Geoffrey Hantson, Executive Creative Director of Duval Guillaume Modem in Belgium, that good is the enemy of great.
