Recovering from spiritual blindness: IT IS WRITTENWe often hear; pray against spiritual blindness. But what is that, really? How do we ask Father to reveal the attitude behind the behaviour.

I see an epidemic of great proportion going on around and within me. It is one of Spiritual Blindness ! In a previous message, I talked about the veil that covers our eyes and the need to cry to the Father that He would open the eyes of our hearts so that we might truly be able to see!

For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise, they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.

Matthew 13:15 (NIV) (See also: Isaiah 6:10 and Acts 28:27)

Daily, I get into conversations with people who are facing various battles: relational; emotional; financial or physical. So much of it is just because we can't see the victory that God has for us on the other side of this flimsy veil (between the kingdom of darkness and the Kingdom of Light).

The enemy of our soul has created an illusion causing delusion and confusion.

13 This is why I speak to them in parables: Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.

Matthew 13:13-14 (NIV) GOD SEES THE WHOLE PICTURE Only when our hearts and minds are fully surrendered to Him, will we be able to see what God sees; the other side of the picture!

Those who have seen a tapestry, will know that on one side you see the makings of a beautiful picture, but if you turn it over, you just see a mess of intertwined threads and knots.

Sometimes our lives can look like that - fighting, squabbling, misunderstandings, bitterness, anger, fear, worries, guilt, and shame etc.

Our relationships take strain as we only see our side of the story. But God sees the whole picture in the making, and He looks toward the final picture He is creating:

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 1:6 (NIV) PRAY FOR EYES THAT SEE As we determine to believe in Him; love and follow Him, despite our worldly struggles, distractions, confusions, and fears - the eyes of our hearts become enlightened, and Jesus calls us BLESSED:

But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.

Matthew 13:16 (NIV) We need to pray against spiritual blindness, where the attitude and motives of our hearts are hidden in the blind spot on the highway of life. We need to ask our Father to reveal to us the attitude behind the behaviour so that we can turn to Him for wisdom and grace.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV) PRAY FOR A TEACHABLE SPIRIT Usually, when we find ourselves in a desperate/difficult situation, we are eager for advice. However, do we take it? Are we prepared to take on some sort of short-term pain for long term gain if required?

To have a teachable spirit, we need to face the problem head on and accept our responsibility in the matter (regardless of what other people did), because in the end, we can only change ourselves, not others.

Also, God can turn all things together for our long-term good, if we love Him and submit our situation to Him.

Ultimately, our heavenly Father is more interested in our character than our comfort, because that is what we take with us into heaven. He is at work behind the scenes in any and every situation, purifying us to become His spotless bride. We can and must trust Him.

PRAYER Abba, we marvel at your infinite wisdom and are grateful to know that you see and know all.

Please remove the veil from our eyes, ears, and hearts, in the same way that you tore the veil in the temple in two when Jesus died on the cross, inviting us into your presence.

We need an encounter with you Lord, so that our hearts would respond, and our lives would be forever changed.
