DTS Certifies DTS:X Immersive Audio System for Direct View Display in Cinema

DTS, a global leader in premium audio solutions and a wholly owned subsidiary of Xperi Corporation (Nasdaq: XPER), has certified the first DTS:X immersive audio system on the largest direct view screen in the world at Xidan Capital Cinema in Beijing, China. The next-level movie going experience of High Dynamic Range (HDR) imagery and captivating immersive audio is bringing in record crowds to see international blockbusters including: Aquaman , Captain Marvel and Wandering Earth .

The DTS:X audio system for direct view at Xidan Capital Cinema includes the use of screen speakers placed above and below the direct view screen surface along with custom tuning which delivers realistic positioning of on-screen sound while preserving natural dialogue quality and timbre. Accurate representation of movie soundtracks in the direct-view environment was made possible through the use of DTS:X technology that scales and adapts to virtually any speaker configuration in a wide array of theatre auditoriums.

The Xidan Beijing Capital Cinema features Samsung's 46-foot wide Onyx screen which delivers captivating HDR imagery with a brightness level capable of reaching 146 FL (10 times brighter than xenon and laser-based projectors) coupled with an infinite contrast ratio. The direct-view 3D provides consistent picture quality and unprecedented clarity for every seat in the auditorium, ensuring an immersive 3D viewing experience. GDC Technology, the official distributor of Onyx Cinema in China, was the system integrator and provided their LPU-1000 integrated media block, designed for Onyx. Prime Connections (China), working hand in hand with DTS, GDC and Capital Cinemas, was responsible for the audio system.

Additional direct view screen installations with DTS:X sound are in planning. In keeping with the adaptive DTS:X system implementation, DTS will work closely with exhibitors and system integrators to commission DTS:X for direct view systems for each unique auditorium and sound system configuration.
