Sky News has been nominated for 11 awards at the 2022 RTS Television Journalism Awards including the prestigious Channel of the Year which it has won for the last four years.
John Ryley, Head of Sky News, said: We're immensely proud that our trustworthy journalism and talented teams have been recognised with 11 nominations at the RTS Awards including Channel of the Year. Their dedication to impartial reporting plays a critical role in helping inform audiences in an uncertain world.
Among the nominations, Specialist correspondent Stuart Ramsay has been shortlisted for the acclaimed Journalist of the Year title and the International Current Affairs award for his eyewitness reporting from Afghanistan. Ramsay, who reported live from Kabul as the Taliban entered the city, was the recipient of the international news award in 2021 for his powerful storytelling from hospitals in Italy at the height of the pandemic. In the last 12 months he has also reported from Brazil on the global climate crisis and from Ukraine as tensions build with Russia.
Sky News' Digital output has received a nomination for its Investigates series where, using data and forensic journalism, the team dissect news stories as the event unfolded in real time such as the storming of Wembley Stadium for the Euros Final. The Investigates series also covered the killing of Zin Ko Ko Zaw at protests in Myanmar which has been viewed more than a million times.
While Home Editor Jason Farrell's harrowing interview with his friend Nevres Kemal, who's daughter's body was violated by necrophile David Fuller is in the running for Interview of the Year.
Also, a winner in 2021, Nick Martin has again been nominated for Specialist Journalist of the Year for his coverage of the impact of the covid-19 on communities.
There are also nominations for Sky News' Breaking News Coverage of the tragic killing of MP Sir David Amess; Daily News Programme of the year for News at Ten; Camera Operator of the Year Dean Massey, News Technology for Climate Live and a Young Talent nod for Mickey Carroll for her work on The Daily Climate Show as well as the original digital films Off Limits.
