Exclusive screenings of Puccini s Tosca --

The third installment in the seventh season of opera, Live in HD by The Metropolitan Opera in New York, is Puccini s classic drama, Tosca. All 10 productions screen exclusively at Cinema Nouveau and select Ster-Kinekor theatres until June 2014.

Following Tchaikovsky s Eugene Onegin and William Kentridge s production of Shostakovich s The Nose, Tosca features Patricia Racette as the title character and Robert Alagna as her devoted lover.

Tosca comes to life on the big screen from Saturday 7 December and for a further five screenings, as Puccini s timeless verismo score is presented by an extraordinary cast, led by Patricia Racette in the title role of the jealous diva, opposite Roberto Alagna as her lover, Cavaradossi, while George Gagnidze is the wicked Scarpia.

This dramatic tale of murder, lust and political intrigue is conducted by Riccardo Frizza.

The opera is is a co-production of the Metropolitan Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Teatro alla Scala and screens in South Africa until 19 December.

Tosca is brought to local audiences countrywide at Gateway Nouveau, Durban; V&A Waterfront Nouveau, Somerset Mall and Blue Route Mall all in Cape Town; Garden Route Mall in George; Rosebank Nouveau and Bedford Centre in Johannesburg; and at Brooklyn Nouveau in Pretoria. The running time is three hours and 35 minutes.

Riccardo Frizza conducts Puccini s sweeping, dramatic tale of murder, lust, and political intrigue.
