Award-winning SA film is out on the Cinema Nouveau circuit on Friday October

After screening at festivals around the world While You Weren't Looking will be released on Ster Kinekors Cinema Nouveau circuit and Maponya Mall on Friday 2 October 2015.

Funded by the National Lotteries Commission, with additional funding provided by the Department of Trade and Industry and the National Film and Video Foundation, is out on the Cinema Nouveau circuit on Friday 2 October.

First feature film produced by the Out in Africa Gay and Lesbian Film Festival

A complex interweaving tale While You Weren't Looking, begins twenty years into the New South Africa as ageing academic Mack (Gums and Noses and Sorteds Lionel Newton ) looks for Salute, the young freedom fighter he sheltered and loved. Salute (Fezile Mpela of Mzanzi and 7de Laan fame) has moved on, he is Joe, married and with a child, rising in government and Party structures.

The affluent mixed-race lesbian couple Dez (Binnelanders' Sandi Schultz) and Terri (Tempy Pusha's Camilla Waldman) struggle to maintain their own desires and ambitions while reining in the rebellious instincts of their beautiful teenage daughter, Asanda (Of Good Report's Petronella Tshuma).

As their daughter falls for Shado (Man on Ground's Thishiwe Ziqubu), a girl from a different background, Dez and Terri must cope with their own hypocrisies and secrets, which threaten to unravel the seemingly perfect world theyve crafted.

While You Weren't Looking is the feature film directing debut of South African Film and Television Award winner Catherine Stewart (Creator of Mzanzis trending The Road, Isibaya, The Lab, Home Affairs, Tsha Tsha, Jacob's Cross). It's also the first film produced by Out in Africa, organisers of the South African Gay and Lesbian Film Festival for the past 21 years.

While You Weren't Looking was beautifully shot by Amelia Henning on locations in and around Cape Town in 24 days. The strong soundtrack includes the likes of Toya Delazy, Zaki Ibrahim, Spoek Mathambo and Umlilo.
