MIX 101.5 2nd Annual Pumpkin Event A Smashing Success

A good number of WRAL-FM listeners and staffers wont have to worry about their Halloween jack-o-lanterns rotting on the front porch this week. MIX 101.5 sponsored a unique way to get rid of October pumpkins on Saturday, November 4, 2017.

Our 2nd Annual MIX 101.5 Great Pumpkin Smash was a hit! explained WRAL-FM Promotions Director Jason Newton. It was a perfect cool fall day, and we had lots of families showing up ready to smash their left over Halloween pumpkins.

WRAL-FM kicked off the fun at Three Bears Acres in Creedmoor last year and returned to the scene of the smash for round two this year.

This was our second year doing the pumpkin smash and it was just as much fun (if not more) as last year, said WRAL-FM Personality & Assistant Program/Music Director Jim Kelly. The families have a blast because there is so much to do at Three Bears Acres anyway, but we up the fun with the pumpkin smash. From using a sling shot to shoot pumpkins across a lake (who knew pumpkins floated), throwing pumpkins at a spiked board, or whacking pumpkins with a baseball bat (my daughter Paytons favorite), its just a blast.

The day turned out to be a smashing good time for all involved.

We had more smashers this year and you can tell how much fun families were having together, said Newton. I look forward to next year and many more to come!
