The European project UHD4U presents its results The Ultra High Definition project for You, was started in the year 2013 with the participation of several companies in France, Belgium, Turkey and Spain (RTVE, Sapec and Hispasat).
After three years of intense work group project Ultra High Definition work for You)UHD4U) introduced recently in Strasbourg their final results first and foremost the consortium of companies that have participated and the European authorities of the cluster Catrene (Cluster for Application and Technology Research in Europe NanoElectronics), belonging to the Euroka program.
In the project they have participated several companies from France, Belgium, Turkey and Spain in order to define, to experience and to promote solutions for the rapid introduction of the UHD. The consortium of companies, which include the Spanish Sapec, HISPASAT and RTVEthey have collaborated for three years, contributing their expertise to be able to define the technological model that allows the signal of UHD reaches to the end customer.
UHD4U has worked on the signal path, studying the chain of value of the Ultra high definition (UHD), from acquisition and processing of images until the final viewing by users, through the different stages of contribution and distribution of the signal.
Sapec paper
Sapec has made the work of the leader of one of the fundamental work packages (WP2: Content Delivery), establishing and coordinating the contributions of each of the partners in the chain of transmission of the UHD. Likewise, Sapec has been the work of the Spanish consortium leader.
Over these three years, there have been different evaluations by managers and auditors of Eureka-Catrene, demonstrating various milestones and conclusions that have been made throughout the different years. Since its inception the project caused sensation among different members of evaluation and was awarded first prize at the exhibition held in Barcelona in November 2013.
In regards to development, Sapec responsibility has focused on the contribution link to UHD signals: the contribution is one of the first stages in the transport of the UHD signal and has a few requirements to keep the quality of the image in the rest of the chain. Sapec has developed and implemented encoding and decoding a signal UHD to 50 fps. in HEVC, using profiles of 4:2:2 10 bit to get high levels of quality of video and low delay.
In this final review of the project, the fulfilment of the objectives and end results, as well as different shows that have been made are checked. As for shows made for this event of completion of project, Sapec has coordinated the contribution of a channel UHD has been carried out by the Spanish Consortium (Contribution Chain).
Coding UHD
In this demonstration, has splintered UHD images of very high quality produced by RTVE. These images were encoded by Sapec in HEVC with 4:2:2-10 contribution profile bits, which gives us a very high quality with low delay.
Encrypted signal sent by satellite via Hispasat by a dedicated channel, through the teleport located in the facilities of Prado del Rey of RTVE. Reception held in the art facilities in Strasbourg, with a receiving computer Gredos and a decoder UHD, provided by Sapec. This equipment will be marketed in the near future by Sapec, within its family of HEVC, Avantos teams.
The decoder regenerating UHD video signal in real time. This signal was monitored on a screen of high quality, where you could check by all attendees the quality of received image. At the same time, provided by Sapec video UHD signal was the source of video for the second part of the show (Distribution Chain) where it becomes to encode for distribution to end users.
Juan Jos Anaya, technical director of Sapec and Antonio Jos S nchez, participated in the event in Strasbourg who has led this project by the Spanish Consortium and development engineer. In this review meeting explained to the audience (made up of representatives of all participating entities and Catrene reviewers) the final conclusions of the package WP2 work, as well as studies and work carried out by Sapec and the Spanish Consortium.
As the end point of this final review of draft, Catrene authorities rated "Excellent" project, highlighting the great work of cooperation and integration between all partners in the project.
Tambi n se realiz una menci n especial a la coordinaci n del consorcio espa ol, que hab a sido uno de los puntos clave de este proyecto.
