DBBC's Cassie Fowler Wins Minor League Women in Baseball Scholarship

DBBC Assistant Group Sales Manager Cassie Fowler has been selected as a recipient of the 2019 Women in Baseball Leadership Scholarship. Minor League Baseball made the announcement on Thursday, November 7, 2019.

Cassie is one of the most (if not the most) respected people in our organization, said DBBC Ticket Sales Manager Brian Simorka. She hits her sales goals annually with professionalism and compassion for the fans and her clients.

The scholarship includes a trip to the Baseball Winter Meetings, including registration, airfare and lodging. The 2019 Baseball Winter Meetings will be held on December 8-12 in San Diego. Fowler will also be honored at the Women in Baseball Leadership Event, held during the week of the meetings.

Fowler is thrilled for the opportunity to attend the meetings, where baseball executives, media and exhibitors converge for networking, educational workshops and discussions about trends and innovations in the industry.

I am so honored and excited to be one of the recipients of this scholarship, she said. Ive never been to Winter Meetings or California so this will be such an amazing experience for me. I had such a wonderful time at Innovators Summit in El Paso last month and I hear that Winter Meetings is a lot like that conference, but on steroids. So Im super excited to see what all is involved.

The Bulls are proud to have Fowler help represent the team in San Diego.

Cassie is constantly thinking outside the box to stay ahead of the curve and her clients needs, said Simokra. The rapport she has built with them is unmatched. She has been recognized several times internally with salesperson of the month, and year, as well as employee of the month. She is one of the hardest working people in the industry, and I am so happy that she will be recognized for it by Minor League Baseball!

Simorka nominated Fowler for the honor.

I didnt even know that Brian nominated me, and I am so grateful and touched that he would think to nominate me for this opportunity, she said. Brian has been such a big supporter of me for years and I wouldnt be where I am today without him.

I learned of the big news while sitting in Mike Birlings office with Chip and Brian thinking we are just having a basic ticket meeting, but then Mike receives a call and puts it on speaker, Fowler explained. It was Pat OConner, President of MiLB informing me that Brian nominated me and that I had been selected. Such a cool experience to have Pat OConner share the big exciting news with me.

Born and raised in Durham, Fowler earned a degree in Health and Human Kinetics with a concentration in Sports Management from Ohio Wesleyan University in Dayton, Ohio. She joined the Bulls in 2014, quickly becoming adept at sports sales. She won the Durham Bulls Ticket Sales Salesperson of the Year Award for both 2016 and 2018. The Bulls created a new award in 2019, the Rhonda Carlile Employee of the Month, named for the long-term Bulls staffer who retired in January. Fowler won the Carlile Employee of the Month Award for February 2019, nominated by her peers.

The Minor League Baseball honor is yet another well-deserved accolade in her shining sports career.

It also feels really good to be a successful female in a male dominated field, said Fowler, and I hope that I can show other females in sports and entertainment that we can break down those walls and prove to the sports world that us females can kick some butt in the office.
