Texas Tech Purchases Comprehensive Abekas Mira Server System

Abekas announced that Texas Tech University, located in Lubbock, TX, has purchased a total of sixteen channels of Mira Multi-Channel Server. This comprehensive Mira server system consists of an eight-channel Mira Instant Replay server with dual Control Surfaces, a four-channel Mira Instant Replay server with one Mira Control Surface and a four-channel Mira Production Server.

This new Mira system will be installed at the Red Raiders' brand-new, $3,000,000 broadcast center. Two new HD control rooms, equipped with Sony MVS switchers, a Harris router and the Abekas Mira servers, will engage fans in the football stadium with professionally-produced programming presented on a new video score board, as well as providing the live feed to the University's broadcasting partners.

We evaluated a number of multi-channel servers and selected the Abekas Mira because nothing else could match its price-performance value, says David Hougland, Director of Broadcast Services, Texas Tech University. With student operators taking control on game day, we needed something easy-to-operate and yet powerfully featured. Mira is unbeatable for college sports broadcasting.

Part of the evaluation process was the integration between the Mira Instant Replay and Mira Production Servers with the Sony MVS switchers. Seamless interoperability makes the interface between the two products one of the fastest and most complete in the industry. A single switcher effect can trigger the loading and playback of animated graphic clips which contain an alpha channel and audio, or can instantly load and play promo and bumper clips directly from the Mira Production server.

The eight-channel Mira Instant Replay server will be configured with six cameras in and two program outputs in one control room, operated from two Mira Control Surface user interfaces. This specialized control panel and complementary graphical user interface (GUI) has been designed specifically to meet the challenging and fast-paced world of live sports broadcasting. The Red Raiders' broadcast team will be using the dual-user capability of the Mira Instant Replay server to maximize live productions on game day.
