Deputy Ruler of Sharjah Concludes Second Government Communication Forum

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, witnessed the grand conclusion of the second Government Communication Forum at a distinguished dinner in the Al Majaz Waterfront last night.

The evening drew the attendance of His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre, Her Excellency Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qassimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority Shurooq, Her Excellency Sheikha Hour bint Sultan Al Qassimi, President of Sharjah Arts Foundation, and His Excellency Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Director of the Office of His Highness the Ruler.

The ceremony was also attended by His Excellency Major General and Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police Humaid Mohamed Al Hadidi, His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah, and His Excellency Dr. Ghanem Al Hajri, Chairman of the Sharjah International Airport Authority.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi honoured the speakers, moderators and sponsors in appreciation of their role in the success of the second Government Communication Forum, which attracted more than 2,500 participants over the two day activities.

In his concluding address, His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi said: During the sessions we attended at the Government Communication Forum 2013, we have listened, talked, interacted and communicated. Despite the differences in ideas, experiences and opinions, we have unanimously agreed that the forum represents a preliminary step towards embedding government communication departments with a modern vision, strategies and mechanisms.

At the forum, we have succeeded in highlighting our needs as governments and nations to improve communication among us. To complement our joint achievement, we must immediately commence working on creating positive change in government communication in the Arab region, whether through

the creation of initiatives or delivering constructive ideas for establishing enhanced communication mechanisms.

During the gala dinner, Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre, thanked the participants, media representatives and sponsors for contributing to the Government Communication Forum. The evening was hosted by renowned TV presenter George Kordahi and featured a commemorative documentary about the forum.

Organizing Committee, presented a memorabilia to His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi in recognition of his unlimited support to the Government Communication Forum 2013.

The second Government Communication Forum (GCF) 2013 was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in the presence of His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoan, Prime Minister of Turkey; Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations; Amre Moussa, former Secretary-General of the Arab League, and Andrew Young, former US Ambassador to the United Nations.

Sharjah Media Centre launched the inaugural Government Communication Forum in 2012 to deliberate on

issues that have never been tackled before. A first-of-its-kind event, the forum articulates the centre's efforts to develop government communication mechanisms for the benefit of government institutions in the UAE and the wider region.
