South Africa's national team the Springboks have come under fire of Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

The EFF-leader has drawn controversy for suggesting that the National Rugby team (and its symbols) represent the country's bygone apartheid-era.

Springboks and the EFF Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has drawn controversy for suggesting that the Springboks and their symbols need to be scrapped.

As reported by The South African website, the politician doesn't appear to be a fan of the national sports team at all.

The sports team that has just won the 2023 Rugby World Cup were also once the subject of great jubilation for their famous win in the 1990s: a move that some would argue united South African fans regardless of their background.

Springboks 1995: Hie' Kommie Bokke A land rejoiced when the Springboks won in 1995, with Leon Schuster's Hie Kommie Bokke chosen as the FNB South African Music Awards winner for the year.

The catchy track had many South Africans from all backgrounds celebrating the previous World Cup win, as Francois Pienaar and Nelson Mandela met on the field.

From Bokke to DIE ANTWOORD? Back in 2011, the South African Music Awards were no longer sponsored by First National Bank (FNB), but their sponsorship moved to network provider MTN.

It wasn't Schuster, but Watkin Tudor Jones from Die Antwoord mixing it up with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
