Introduction to Networks (ITN) covers networking architecture, structure, and functions. The course introduces the principles and structure of IP addressing and the fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media, and operations to provide a foundation for the curriculum.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Explain network technologies and how devices access local and remote network resources.
Describe router hardware and how switching operates in a small to medium-sized business network.
Design an IP addressing scheme to provide network connectivity for a small to medium-sized business network.
Configure initial settings on a network device and monitoring tools available for small to medium-sized business networks.
Implement basic network connectivity between devices.

Discuss the components used in an IP-based production workflow

Select appropriate image and audio sync methods during mixing and switching
Consider the Internet Delivery Systems for distribution
Describe the basics of cloud technology and potential impacts and factors in the workflow affecting network performance
Perform basic troubleshooting and determine resolutions to common network related workflow issues

It is now more important than ever that you understand how IP can be implemented in your professional media creation facility to ensure interoperability between all ST 2110 compliant equipment.
Led by SMPTE Fellow Thomas Bause Mason, this SMPTE Virtual Classroom course will provide you with the knowledge you need to help your organization make the most of SMPTE ST 2110, a critical enabler of fully internet protocol (IP)-based operations.
This course is intended for engineers and technologists who need to understand the detail in SMPTE's ST 2110 suite of standards. It assumes a basic understanding of IP and associated terminology.
While not required to register, to gain the most from this course we recommend that you complete Introduction to Networks, Routing and Switching Essentials, and the Essentials of IP Media Transport for Broadcasters: Moving Real-Time Video and Audio over Packet Networks prior to enrolling in Understanding ST 2110. The recommended courses will enable a deeper understanding of IP, internetworking, and many essential concepts that are referenced.
