MultiChoice partners with PSL for U19 reserve soccer league --

On 12 August Pay-TV broadcaster and DStv operator MultiChoice announced its partnership with Premier Soccer League (PSL) in presenting a new three-year soccer programme, the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, in an aim to foster skill and development among South Africa s young sports stars and aspiring filmmakers.
The initiative not only serves to develop and showcase the reserve teams of the 16 soccer league clubs, but provides a learning platform for interns to develop broadcasting skills and build on their experience. Players will have the opportunity to gain valuable life skills as well as leadership development, and five academic scholarships will be awarded to selected players and production interns.
The initiative addresses a great need in our country to impact the lives of young South Africans said Imtiaz Patel, Group CEO for MultiChoice South Africa. A big problem with South African football is the lack of exposing our youth to football early on in their lives.
The MultiChoice Diski Challenge is aligned with the SuperSport Let s Play initiative and the recently announced annual film academy as part of the MultiChoice s on-going corporate social investment drive.
SuperSport will broadcast the MultiChoice Diski Challenge matches live and further to this, games will be offered for broadcast to community television channels such as Tshwane TV, Soweto TV, Bay TV, Cape TV and 1KZNTV, which are already available on the DStv platform. Motse Mfuleni, Chairperson of the Association of Community Television South Africa said this decision will make a positive difference to the community broadcasting industry.
We want to salute and thank MultiChoice and PSL for allowing those in the community to be further exposed to positive role-models, remarked Mfuleni, We will make sure we are technically ready to support the project and deliver on quality viewing.
Fikile Mbalula, the Minister of Sport and Recreation added, In sport we deal with human beings - our bricks and mortar are people. We talk about game changers and intervention in terms of economy, and development is the buzzword.
I think it s quite magnificent in terms of the goals we set for ourselves. I m elated and over-the-moon. Diski is a game changer in sport development and we welcome this visionary decision with both hands.
The MultiChoice Diski Challenge kicks off in KwaZulu Natal on Saturday 13 September 2014 before moving on to Cape Town, Johannesburg and Bloemfontein in the weeks that follow.
While first and second runners up will receive Bronze and Silver medals respectively, the winning team will receive The MultiChoice Diski Challenge rotating trophy, gold medals as well as a trip to Holland for a four-day training camp at the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB). They will also play friendly games against Bundesliga opponents and Germany.
