Viewers of Showmax's The Wife season three reveal that the telenovela appears to have lost its edge as it can't keep up the social media momentum it initially built in seasons one and two.

TELENOVELA HAD SOCIAL MEDIA IN A CHOKEHOLD' The Citizen reports that when The Wife season one first debuted, it had social media in a chokehold, and trended weekly but can't seem to keep up the momentum it initially built as the hashtag #TheWifeShowmax seems to fizzle out when new episodes are loaded on Thursdays.

The publication adds that viewers appear to be bored by season three's storylines which included an introduction of new six new actors and the departures of fan-favourite actors Abdul Khoza, who played Nqoba Zulu, and Zikhona Sodlaka, who played his wife Mandisa Zulu.

Season three of the popular telenovela focuses on Qhawe's (Kwenzo Ngcobo) new love, Naledi (Gaisang K Noge). Naledi was kidnapped in season two by her father Kgosi's bodyguards (played by Sello Motloung) when he found out about her relationship with Qhawe. He wants his daughter to marry Stoan Seate's character Sefako who is also royalty.

Viewers of The Wife also complained on social media about Khoza's exit as he doesn't get killed in the book series and was the glue that kept the show together.

The show also introduced Sambulo's (Sipho Ndlovu) lover turned wife Xoli (played by Lingashoni actress Lungelo Mpangase) and five more new faces.

Sambulo and Xoli. Image supplied THE END OF THE WIFE' Actress Mbalenhle Mavimbela, who's been playing Hlomu since season one recently revealed to True Love Magazine that playing Hlomu Zulu in The Wife has been a spiritual journey.

I think I need to elaborate on why and what I mean by that. Hlomu has been through a lot, there are weird things that are happening to Hlomu that are now starting to happen to Mbali that I need to obviously not allow, especially the bad stuff, but all the great things I welcome with warm hands.

When Mavimbela is asked what she will miss about the show she reveals that she'll miss her character.

I will definitely miss Hlomu. She was my escape, I'll miss Hlomu because I lived with her for so long so I think I'll definitely miss her. And obviously, work and the crew and the cast and people I've met and made friends with but mainly just being Hlomu - I'm going to miss that.
