Mistika VR plays a critical role in the process, as I don't have to spend hours creating the perfect 360 environment and adjusting settings. With my presets in place, all I have to do is import my footage, set a few parameters, choose my output, and let it do the rest.

Overcoming multi-camera limitations

Recording driving plates for rear-screen driving shots has traditionally been time-consuming and costly, with limitations such as losing the ability to capture car turning and causing the car to appear out of place on the road.

To overcome these challenges, Hasso used a single 360 VR camera with one lens to capture the entire car POV, which allowed him to use car turning shots later in post, avoiding the risk of cameras falling and stitching errors often encountered with a multi-camera setup.

For creating car scenes I needed a high-quality screen to display the car and a driving plate to play on it. That's where Mistika VR plays a huge part, explains Hasso. After shooting, he deploys Mistika VR to quickly create 360 dailies that are ready for review the next morning.

Another big hurdle in creating car scenes are the limitations posed by commercially available 360 cameras. Eric Hasso believes that their inability to denoise without losing the gyro data needed for stabilization is a major drawback, undermining the smooth and authentic appearance of the final product.

Mistika VR allowed me to build my own 360 camera, giving me complete control over the stabilization process. Now I am able to denoise and make the large files from my camera usable with industry-standard software. Igelkott and Mistika VR are making the creation of driving plates easy, concluded Eric Hasso.
