National Geographic Traveller introduces special supplement on Sharjah

National Geographic Traveller reviewed unique aspects of the emirate Sharjah which was presented on the opening of the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2012 through a Sharjah supplement.

His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre confirmed the high interest and presence of media during the WTM towards Sharjah and informed, that 80,000 copies of the 24 page-supplement will be distributed throughout the UK and UAE market, at the Sharjah International Book Fair and selected Sharjah destinations.

Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre shared, that National Geographic Traveller is one of the milestones Sharjah Media Centre worked on and through which it widened its international prominence.

The supplement initiated by Sharjah Media Centre has a close corporation with Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority and the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority Shurooq, where it illustrates Sharjah with state-of-the-art pictures accompanying information on infrastructural, cultural, environmental and tourism projects e.g. Sharjah Heritage Days and Sharjah Biennial, that are unique to Sharjah and recorded a prominent international presence on the global map.

Next to the supplement, Sharjah Media Centre introduced the 50 Must Know Facts About Sharjah as one of its initiatives to the travel audience.

The official ceremony with National Geographic Traveller held at the Sharjah Media Centre stand was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman Sharjah Media Centre; His Excellency Mohamed Al Noman, Chairman Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority; His Excellency Marwan Al Sarkal, CEO Sharjah Investment and Development Authority Shurooq; His Excellency Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre and representatives from National Geographic Traveller.

The ceremony and special supplement on the emirate of Sharjah attracted tourism pioneers participating at WTM London 2012, one of the largest international exhibitions specializing on the travel and tourism sector. More than five thousand exhibitors from 189 countries and a number of attendees, that exceeded 50 thousand visitors participate at this year's WTM.

His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi stressed on the importance of the report which was devoted entirely to the Emirate of Sharjah. The National Geographic Traveller partnership and supplement, devoted entirely to Sharjah, created a wide attention among the pioneers of the World Travel Market London 2012 and various media professionals from Asian and European countries travel titles to daily newspapers.

The Chairman of the Sharjah Media Centre highlighted the role of the media in the service of the various objectives like tourism development and investment opportunities within the emirate. His Excellency especially referred to the fame and global reach of National Geographic Traveller, conveying the image of the emirate of Sharjah accurately and encouraging the international tourism.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi added to focus on the process of uniting the efforts of government institutions in Sharjah through Sharjah Media Centre with various programs, that will support the main strategy of conveying the image of Sharjah as a tourist destination and position the emirate on the global media arena though a balanced portrayal. Furthermore His Excellency pointed out that Sharjah Media Centre with National Geographic Traveller, is one of the initiatives, which introduces Sharjah from a tourism perspective.

For his part, His Excellency Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman the Commerce and Tourism Development Authority stated, that National Geographic Traveller successfully presents developments witnessed by the emirate of Sharjah, which attract tourists from around the world. He also highlighted the role of the media efforts in the tourism sector to present globally the meaning of environment friendly tourism projects.

Al Noman expressed his gratitude about the creation of the National Geographic Traveller Sharjah supplement as an important marketing tool to highlight the distinct identity of the emirate as a tourism destination.

Furthermore His Excellency Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority - Shurooq enjoyed the contribution to National Geographic Traveller, in order to draw attention on Sharjah's tourism and investment sectors.

His Excellency Al Sarkal stated on the importance of promoting the tourism sector from a point of view of tour providers, airlines, hoteliers and travel agencies. In global competition Sharjah plays an important role in supplying the national economy and activating the investment sector. Pointing to the role of the media, he urged on the necessity of shaping the vision and objectives of Shurooq on investment, environmental tourism aspects and with reflections on multilateral and unilateral advantages and developments of Sharjah.
