BBC iPlayer has added a new category that includes 450 programmes from the corporations archive.

From the Archive includes programming from 1946 to present day, with highlights including Louis Therouxs Weird Weekends, interviews with the likes of Muhammad Ali and Salvador Dali and some of the BBCs biggest names such as David Attenborough and Terry Wogan.

The new section, which is available from today, also includes footage which hasnt been shown since first broadcast, including collections such as the Great War Interviews, a series of interviews with World War One veterans and civilians filmed in the 1960s.

Many of the programmes were previously only available to watch on the BBC's website, but the iPlayer launch means they are now available to watch via the iPlayer apps and on connected TVs.

Dan McGolpin, controller, programming and daytime, said: For millions of people, BBC iPlayer is a reliable place for finding something good to watch whenever they choose to look. It will now provide an even richer choice of quality BBC programmes with this new category, From The Archive, making available hundreds of gems from the past including some historic documentary series and interviews with cultural and sporting icons.
