
SVG Summit, SVGW Australia Event Expand SVG's Presence Down Under By SVG Staff

SVG and NEP brought together more than 90 female and male industry professionals for an important discussion about harassment and conduct guidelines as part of SVGW Australia's annual networking event.
The annual SVG presence in Australia expanded this year into a bit of an SVG Australia Week, with SVG taking part in two panel discussions at SMPTE's MET Expo, co-hosting an SVGW Australia panel and networking event with NEP, and bringing together 175 sports production professionals for the annual SVG Australia event at Telstra's Customer Insight Centre in Sydney.
More than 175 industry professionals attended the 2025 SVG Australia Summit last week in Sydney.
The opportunity this year to work more closely with SMPTE on engineering-related discussions and to once again bring nearly 100 women together to discuss frankly and openly issues of harassment and proper workplace conduct showed the growing depth of connections SVG continues to establish in one of the world's truly sport-crazy continents, says Ken Kerschbaumer, SVG, co-executive director.

As for the SVG Summit itself, Karen Clark, Telstra CEO, kicked things off with a welcome before Jon Marquard, Janez Media, Director led a panel discussion with Dave Edwards, Football Australia, General Manager, Data and Streaming Rights; Josh Lee, Tennis Australia, Head of Broadcast & Media Operations; and Jodie Watson, The Great Public Schools Association of Queensland (GPS), Executive Officer. The conversation covered the spectrum of sports production and distribution, from local public-school sports to national football, and a leading international sporting event.

Other pre-lunch highlights included conversations about the growing use of graphics in new ways for both live event and studio environments thanks to AR and XR, moderated by Dave Cochrane, Light & Fury, Director the panelists included Jerome Guzzo, Champion Data, Design Team Lead; Andrew O'Neil, Vizrt, VP, Sports Strategy & Growth; Alex Rolls, Nine Entertainment, Head of Creative and Innovation WWOS; and Ian Taylor, ARL, Founder and Managing Director. Other highlights included a presentation on 5G slicing by Angus Stewart, Telstra Broadcast Services, Product Manager and a look at how Tabcorp - Sky Racing went all-in on LiveU's IP-video remote production solution, transforming the way horse racing is broadcast from multiple tracks with cost-effective, high-quality live coverage by Chris Dredge, LiveU Pacific, Country & Sales Manager
After lunch Ken Kerschbaumer, SVG, Co-Executive Director, Editorial Services led a discussion that featured Paul Briscoe, TAG Video Systems, Chief Architect; Mike Di Ciero, Diversified, Regional Service Delivery Director - APAC, Services Management; Adrian Jenner, Gravity Media, Director of Technology, Australia; Thomas Parsons, Amagi, Senior Director, Sales and Business Development; and Marc Segar, NEP, CTO, Australia, New Zealand and Japan and covered everything from the challenges and reasons to embrace ST-2110 to the challenges and reasons to embrace the cloud for live production environments.
The growth of women's sports and its continual growth in relevance, profitability, and marketing power was also discussed during a panel discussion led by Shauna Jones, RISE: A Group for Gender Diversity in Media Technology, ANZ Advisory Board Chair and featuring Monica Forlano, RISE: A Group for Gender Diversity in Media Technology, ANZ Secretary of the Board; Katey Martin, Cricket Commentator; Emma Moore, AFLW, General Manager; and Chris Rankin, Octagon APAC, Senior Strategy Director who presented Octagon research on the subject.
Shauna Jones, Monica Forlano, Emma Moore, Katey Martin, and Chris Rankin discussed the expanding world of women's sports and the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Other highlights in the afternoon included a great overview by Adam Langham, Lawo, Solution Architect, of why the Media Exchange Layer will be a big part of nearly everyone's future and a presentation by Sean Curran, Eluvio, General Manager of Business Developments and Partnerships, APJ, about the growing ways Eluvio is helping clients like European Professional Club Rugby growing the quality of their services and revenues via the content fabric.
The day then wrapped up with a look at the generative AI landscape, moderated by Ken Kerschbaumer, SVG, Co-Executive Director, Editorial Services and featuring Sudharshan (Sud) Aravamudan, Google Cloud, Media & Entertainment GTM | Australia, and Paul Devlin, AWS, Global Strategy Leader, Betting, Gaming & Sports Technology.
