FKA Twigs #roughgla

Its not quite robo-vision, but designer frames that double up as mini-computers are upon us. FKA Twigs and Google have teamed up to demonstrate the capabilities of the tech firms Google Glass the rather cool, very on trend wearable technology.

#throughglass is a stylish conceptual film between the experimental trip-hop artist and Silicon Valley giant and it was graded here at Finish by our very own Julien Biard. FKA Twigs stars and directs in the short film which was comes out of Anomaly NY and was produced by Academy Films.

Twigs uses the pioneering augmented reality technology to play her track Video Girl, which has been re-scored, along with Glass & Patron, for the soundtrack. The film which features the artist, her track and Twigs signature choreography is a combination of part promo, part technological demo and part sophisticated dance-off.

The film plays out in an all-white dance studio as Twigs and her dancers, all of which are always dressed in black and white, perform a number of choreographic routines. The monochromatic hues are a permanent feature of the video, which was graded by Julien who comments creating a grade that worked in harmony with the simplicity was essential. The overall feel is very clean and the grade has to enhance that. The viewers eyes are drawn to the artist at all times.

Having gained inspiration for her dance moves via searching YouTube on her Google Glass, Twigs, championed for her dancing ability, performs a number of freestyle moves in the studio. More dancers arrive as the film progresses, each bringing their own internet-influenced style to floor, and a dance-clash ensues.

From Vogueing through to Krumping, with an added helping of gymnastics, the music-meet-tech collaboration has ensured that Google Glass has never looked so cool.
