Once seen as a niche element to in-venue productions within the National Hockey League, on-ice projections have become a staple at all NHL arenas. As technology continues to evolve, augmented reality (AR) has given a major face lift to these activations by providing three-dimensional content.
At the 2023 SVG Venue Summit, New York Islanders' Director of Media Art & Design Adam Sabh chats about his role in bringing this venue to life, the on-ice projection workflow that entertains fans during pregame and intermission, how AR is being leveraged on other LED displays throughout UBS Arena, examples of content being shown on the playing surface, how forced perspective is creating more dynamic visuals, and what fans can expect to see during next season's home schedule.
