Cakewalk announce Momentum songwriting platform

Capture ideas on a phone and import into any DAW via plug-in

Cakewalk's latest development is a cross-platform app that lets you record song ideas quickly and an accompanying cloud-synchronised plug-in that lets you open these ideas up in your DAW of choice.

With Momentum, we're also helping musicians get their ideas out of voice-memo-purgatory and seamlessly into their favourite DAW, where they can turn their ideas into songs, says Alex Westner, Cakewalk's VP Product Strategy & Innovation.

You can even send songs from your DAW back into the Momentum app for additional development while away from your computer - like coming up with lyric ideas for melodies or chord progressions.

Rather than just turning devices like smartphones and tablets into portable recorders, Momentum can record up to four tracks, with editing, looping, and effects. It also keeps your ideas organised in the so-called Momentum Ideaspace,' with tagging and easy retrieval to smooth and speed up the creative process.

If Momentum helps musicians, songwriters and producers capture inspiration as it strikes and easily turn that into songs, then it sounds like a good idea to us.

There are three versions available: the Free version supports a limited number of ideas (projects) encoded in MP3 format, each with a maximum length of 5 minutes. The Basic Plan ($2.99/month) allows for an unlimited number of ideas. The Pro Plan ($9.99/month) extends the maximum length to 60 minutes per idea, uses lossless encoding with FLAC or WAV, and lets users record audio from their DAW back into the plug-in.

Momentum is available globally through music and sound retailers this month (November 2017), and immediately in the Cakewalk Store.
