Capitol Broadcasting Honored Among First Greater Triangle Civic 50 for Commitment to Community

Capitol Broadcasting Company has been honored by the first Greater Triangle Civic 50, for the company's commitment to the Triangle community and positive corporate citizenship. The inaugural awards breakfast, hosted by Activate Good, took place at the Raleigh Marriott City Center on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Points of Light started the Civic 50 in 2012 on the national level to recognize the 50 most community-minded companies in the nation. The program serves as a benchmarking tool and platform for sharing best practices in the corporate citizenship sector. Activate Good as an affiliate of Points of Light is among only five organizations across the country hosting their own Civic 50.

We want to live in a world where everyone knows their power to do good, Activate Good Founder & Executive Director Amber Smith told the crowd of honorees. Civic 50 is an opportunity to recognize the work you are doing year-round.

Several companies were selected in categories based on their number of employees. CBC was included in the 100-499 Employees group.

Every Civic 50 honoree took an extensive survey administered by TrueImpact. The survey instrument consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform the scoring process. The Civic 50 is the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate community engagement.

CBC was selected based on four dimensions of their community engagement program:

INVESTMENT - How extensively and strategically the company applies its resources to community engagement, including employee time and skills, cash, in-kind giving, and leadership.

INTEGRATION - How a company's community engagement program supports business interests and integrates into business functions, or how it does well by doing good.

INSTITUTIONALIZATION - How the company supports community engagement through its institutional policies, systems, and incentives.

IMPACT - How a company measures the societal impact of its community engagement program

Several representatives from CBC were on hand for the awards breakfast, and WRAL-TV Anchor Reporter Debra Morgan emceed the event.

Thanks to Capitol Broadcasting and our family ownership for our commitment to the community over the years, said Morgan. As a newscaster I have seen some of the worst in the Triangle, but also some of the best. I'm happy to be there today.

Smith challenged the crowd of companies to continue the work that earned them a spot on the first Greater Triangle Civic 50 list, Think about how to continue the good you're doing.

Keynote speaker Triangle Business Journal Market President Jason Christie perhaps summed up the theme, and the future charge, of the morning best in his remarks, Be good. Do good. And good things will happen.
