Cape Town weather: Rain will lash the region on Tuesday, Wednesday

Great news, Capetonians: Winter is starting with a bang. You've got plenty more rain coming your way for the week ahead: The Cape Town weather forecast is currently predicting two days of downpours across the municipality and towards its neighbouring areas.

As Ventusky forecast, It's a much-welcome boost for the Mother City, which is also celebrating successive weekly increases for its dam levels for the first time in almost eight months. The official rainy season begins this month, with the wet stuff likely to fall more frequently, right through until September.

As ever, we're on hand to explain how much rain is falling, and the times you can expect the best part of the dousing. If you've got an umbrella handy, you'll need it nearby if you're in the south-west.

Cape Town weather forecast for Tuesday 4 JuneThe rain is set to make its way inland from about 8:00 on Tuesday, approaching from the south and pushing itself in a north-easterly direction. Downpours will be at their most intense around midday, before petering out later in the afternoon. Some regions could face 10mm of rain within a three-hour period, too.

The rain will come and go throughout the day, eventually dispersing before 17:00.

Forecast rainfall for 5 / 6 / 2019, 8:00 Photo: VentuskyThe complete cumulative forecast shows that Cape Town itself can expect 15mm of rain to fall over a 24-hour period. Stellenbosch will receive the lion's share of the wet weather, clocking more than 30mm in total.

The rain is forecast to blanket the Cape Winelands, where most of the facilities are based. It looks like the Steenbras dams will be the biggest beneficiaries, receiving 20mm over the two-day period. Franschhoek home of Berg River dam could also end up clocking more than 15mm.
