Match any System Delays with Four New Variable Delays from Crystal Vision 28 Oct 2013
Crystal Vision continues its commitment to being the leading video delay provider with the launch of four new variable video delays. Providing up to ten seconds of 3Gb/s delay, 20 seconds in HD and 110 seconds in SD, the ViViD 3G range is designed for matching any system delays, with 12 of these space-saving modules fitting in 2U. New features appearing on a Crystal Vision video delay for the first time include 3Gb/s support, signal timing, video proc-amp and integrated fibre input/output.
ViViD 3G and ViViD 3GS provide half a second of delay in 3Gb/s, one second in HD and 5.5 seconds in SD. Where a longer delay is needed, ViViD 3G-20 and ViViD 3GS-20 both give ten seconds in 3Gb/s, 20 seconds in HD and 110 seconds in SD. This means that the ViViD 3G range can be used to match any short or long system delays, such as those caused by virtual studio graphics, MPEG encoders and decoders, audio processing, HD radio links and satellite links, while the longer delay lines can also find use as part of a profanity delay system. Having the delay adjustable in increments of pixels, lines, frames and seconds makes it easy to get the exact delay required.
Explained Crystal Visions Managing Director, Philip Scofield: We have supplied video delays to help integrate chroma keyers into virtual studios for many years. As our customers have found more uses for video delays, we have developed our range of products to suit any requirement.
The ViViD 3GS and ViViD 3GS-20 variants both include a framestore synchroniser timed to an external Black and Burst or tri-level syncs analogue reference thereby providing a neat single board solution for applying a long delay to a video path and locking the signal to a station reference at the same time.
Broadcast engineers can save money and rack space for signals that need to be transported over longer distances by having fibre input or output straight into the board, using either the FIP fibre option to receive an optical input or the FOP fibre option to transmit an optical output using a Class I laser. A video proc-amp is included for picture optimisation and to help maintain colour fidelity, with RGB and YUV lift and gain adjustments. The entire video stream is delayed, with embedded audio and ancillary data staying with the associated video allowing use in embedded areas.
The ViViD 3G range saves rack space by being 100mm x 266mm modules that fit in the standard frames alongside any other product from the range, with up to 12 video delays in 2U. Inputs and outputs are accessed via three frame rear modules either the standard RM41, the RM57 for fibre applications or the RM67 where relay bypass protection is required in the event of power failure or board malfunction or removal. Four delayed outputs are provided, potentially saving the need for a distribution amplifier in the system.
Easy to set up and use, the flexible control options include board edge switches, an integrated control panel on the frame, a remote control panel, SNMP or the Statesman PC software. 16 presets allows different delay values to be assigned and then recalled automatically by the studio control system. Signal monitoring is available, with two GPI outputs reserved for alarm indication and with a number of alarms able to be assigned. The alarms are input missing, video black, video frozen and input audio missing with reference not present and reference incompatible additionally available on ViViD 3GS and ViViD 3GS-20.
The four versions of ViViD 3G are all shipping now, and join the long-standing ViViD HD-40 video delay which provides 43 seconds of HD delay and four minutes in SD.
Based at Whittlesford near Cambridge in the UK, Crystal Vision provides digital keyers, picture storage modules and a full range of interface equipment including converters, synchronisers, distribution amplifiers and audio embedders to the professional broadcasting industry worldwide.
