TVBAwards Production and Post: the finalists

TVBEurope is taking a closer look at the nominated projects for each of the 17 TVBAwards, in the run up to the event on 22 October.

The Production and Post category showcases the exceptional work of dedicated teams working behind the scenes as the cameras are rolling and beyond. The category comprises three awards, for Image Capture, Broadcast Audio, and Post Production. We received a diverse range of nominations for the category this year including short films, comedy series, sporting events, live talent shows, children's programming, cutting edge drama and more. The shortlist has been drawn up and the winners will be selected by an independent panel of judges and announced at the TVBAwards ceremony at the Bloomsbury Ballroom, central London.

Director Sofia Olins, Helicopter Films Services and Arri are in the running for Achievement in Image Capture, for the short film Knit Me Some Happiness. The latest camera technology was deployed to shoot the short in just two days, followed by a premiere at the Shieffield Doc/Fest. Canon and Lion Eyes TV have also received a nomination for Peter Kay's Car Share, a BBC One comedy series for which Lion Eyes TV designed, built and implemented a unique camera rig which featured five Canon cameras from its Cine range. Also up for the award is Sony for its capture of the Champions League final in 4K, and YLE/ATEME for a 360 degree live stream of Presidential Independence Day in Finland.

In addition to nominations in the Live Production category, both BBC/NEP Visions and Robert Edwards and his team have been nominated for a second TVBAward; Achievement in Sound, for Proms 2015 and X-Factor, respectively. Also nominated for the award is Andy Tapley, BBC Studios and Post Production's sound supervisor for his work on projects including Strictly Come Dancing, as well as Salford-based dock10 for Cucumber, Banana , and Tofu. The entire post production workflow for the series, created by Russell T Davies (Doctor Who, Queer as Folk), was managed by dock10, and the three separated but interlinked series aired across Channel 4, E4 and 4OD.

The final award in the Production and Post category is Achievement in Post Production. dock10 has received a second nomination for the same project, and FilmLight has been entered twice for two different productions. FilmLight's Baselight ONE and Baselight for Avid combine to deliver a fast, efficient workflow for ITV Studios' Coronation Street, and its render-free workflow for German comedy drama Lerchenberg has also landed it a nomination. Finally, Timeline Television has also been nominated for the award for 36-part CBBC series, World's End. Timeline Television North provided full picture and audio post production for the series, creating a number of different visual looks using DaVinci Resolve, Avid Symphony and Blackmagic's Fusion.
