GoPro Teams Up with Envision Festival to Give Back

There are two things that constantly top the list of needs for homeless individuals. The first is a good meal. The second is socks. That's right, when making donations and helping with necessities for the homeless, people often overlook something as simple, yet important, as socks.

This oversight struck a cord with the outreach team for the Costa Rica-based Envision Festival, and the wheels started turning just in time to coincide with GoPro's 12 Days of Cause, GoPro's company-wide holiday initiative to volunteer during the holidays. The result was Sacks + Socks - an epic synergy between GoPro, the Envision Street Team, Stance Socks, Dr. Bronner's and Guyaki Yerba Mate to provide more than 200 homeless individuals with a sack lunch and a new pair of socks.

On Dec. 10, the Envision Street Team set out armed with a few GoPros to capture the day (you can watch the events play out from start to finish in the video above).

With the help of GoPro, we were able shoot footage of the sacks being put together and distributed in some unique and fun angles that would otherwise be impossible to capture, explains Envision Festival promotions manager Jessica Bernstein. It was also important to us not to be invasive in any way while interacting with those in need. Shooting with GoPros allowed us to be creative and get some active coverage of this fast paced event.

After a hefty Costco run, more than 20 volunteers from the Street Team and GoPro gathered in the break room of GoPro's San Diego office to get down to business.

Ten jars of peanut butter, five jars of jelly, 14 loaves of bread and donations from Stance and Guyaki Yerba Mate were transformed into more than 200 sacks. Each sack was complete with a PB&J, a pair of socks, a mini soap and a refreshing drink - leaving all the volunteers with an overwhelming urge for a PB&J lunch that day.

Once everything was loaded up, the Street Team set out to distribute the sacks around Downtown San Diego, and the recipients' smiles - young and old - were enough to warm everything from our hearts to our toes.

When partnering up with companies on special projects such as this one, our focus is to work like-minded brands who stand for something we can really get behind, Jessica says. We knew we wanted to collaborate with GoPro right off the bat. GoPro is known for their thrill-seeking, outdoor adventurers. Those who travel down to Costa Rica for the festival are just that.

While Envision Festival as a whole is aimed at providing a mind-opening experience, each member of the Envision Street Team is given the resources to organize a community-based volunteer project to elevate various communities' life experiences and raise awareness about the festival throughout the year.
