Latin American Cable Giant NET Extends Installation of Volicon Observer RPM for Remote Program Monitoring

BURLINGTON, Mass. June 18, 2013 Volicon today announced that Brazil's Net Servi os de Comunica o (NET), the largest cable television operator in Latin America, is extending its installation of Observer Remote Program Monitor (RPM) digital video monitoring and logging systems to enable real-time monitoring and troubleshooting not only at the NET headend in Sao Paulo, but also across hub sites in six other cities.

We need to know immediately if any of our channels is experiencing a fault, and Volicon's Observer RPM provides our engineers with an instant alert that allows them to see exactly what our customers are experiencing, said Emerson Pinfildi, telecom engineer at NET. With this tool, we can be proactive in addressing any issues and in assuring that we provide the highest possible quality of experience for viewers. For this reason, we've chosen to extend our use of the Observer RPM across many more markets.

NET currently uses two Observer RPM-400 systems in Sao Paulo to monitor its lineup of about 240 channels. Once the operator installs an additional six units across its hub sites, NET will be able to monitor for outages and issues not just locally, but also regionally and systemwide. Alerts from Observer RPM will assist NET in locating the source of the issue and correcting it sooner, resulting in a shorter disruption.

Installed locally or at a remote location, the Observer RPM-400 system continuously scans all channels in the lineup and tests signal integrity. The system automatically detects such faults as missing/frozen/black video, low audio levels, and macroblocking. When these faults occur, or when transmission quality falls below preset thresholds, the Volicon system issues alerts (via e-mail and SNMP) to network operations center (NOC) engineers. The system also provides clips illustrating the fault, which give the engineering staff the opportunity to see the precise content and how it was affected.

As the Observer RPM deployment across NET facilities grows, the system's easy-to-use, rich toolset for remote browser-based monitoring and logging will ensure straightforward 24/7 monitoring by technical staff at NET.
