TVBAwards: the Capture nominees

The first TVBAwards take place in exactly three weeks, and following on from last Thursday, today we highlight the nominations in the Capture category, one of four that comprises the Awards. Communications giant and architect of the Networked Society, Ericsson, has signed up as sponsor of the Capture awards.

Nominations for the Beyond HD Achievement in Image Capture seem to have one think in common - celebrating beauty in the natural world. TV2 ASA, Norway, has been nominated for the project Fly med oss, for which a helicopter flew across Norway equipped with both a Cineflex and 360 camera. For three weeks TV2 captured the most spectacular nature Norway has to offer and met people from around the country, with the result broadcast on TV and the web. The BBC for One Planet, Les Films en Vrac for Land of the Bears, and NT live and Sony, for War Horse live in 4K, are also in the running for the award.

This year has seen another spectacular summer of sports, so it's no surprise we received a deluge of nominations for Achievement in Sports Broadcast. Our independent judging panel managed to decide on a top four, covering sports as diverse as golf (U.COM Media) and the Oxford/Cambridge boat race (Presteigne Broadcast Hire). Primestream and Cinevideo were also picked by the judges for their work on TV3Sport ViaSat, and the Ultra e-motion UEFA Europa League Final respectively.

Other must-see TV events this year are celebrated in the Capture category, with four well-known projects nominated for the Achievement in VFX award. An industrial, noirish 1920s Birmingham is recreated in Peaky Blinders, thanks to effects work by Bluebolt, which is up for the award. Going back even further in time, Milk VFX have been nominated for bringing prehistoric creatures back to life in Natural History Museum Alive 3D. The London-based company has also been nominated for its work on Doctor Who: Day of the Doctor, and Vine FX, the sole visual effects studio involved in the first series of the primetime BBC drama Atlantis, has been nominated for the project.

The winning companies will be recognised on 23 October at the Hilton London Wembley. The night will open with a drinks reception, followed by dinner and the awards presentation, and wrapping up with an after party and networking opportunities.
