BOW has revealed details of a new partnership with XPLOR to explore the use of robotics in film and TV production.
Robotics software company BOW, and live events research, development and innovation centre, XPLOR, will begin their collaboration with R&D projects involving the programming of robotic arms in XPLOR's virtual production studio and using BOW to deploy robotic arms for inhospitable shooting environments, said the company.
Image: BOW The partnership seeks to advance research into the field of robotics in the creative sectors, enhancing efficiency, pursuing new use cases and reducing the cost of robotics in production.
Deploying BOW's software development kit (SDK), the project aims to bridge the gap between diverse robotic systems, enabling integration and interoperability across multiple platforms. By converting a range of robot specifications into a unified driver, the BOW platform enables real-time simulation and the reuse of control algorithms, simplifying processes such as inverse kinematics and motion planning, said the company.
Nick Thompson, CEO of BOW said: BOW's partnership with XPLOR will push the boundaries of what is possible in the creative industries through robotics. BOW will serve as a technical backbone, empowering XPLOR to integrate robotics seamlessly into live events and scripted productions, from the biggest film and television productions to star-studded live event performances. Our technology will not only enable the development of innovative new applications, it will also streamline operations - enhancing efficiency and reducing the cost of deploying robotics on set.
