A series showcasing the world s greatest fine art exhibitions, especially created for cinema audiences, releases exclusively at Cinema Nouveau.

Vermeer and Music: The Art of Love and Leisure, the third production in the EXHIBITION ON SCREEN series, screens from 26 October.

The production, which was filmed in London, New York, Washington DC, The Hague, Delft and Amsterdam, shows more than half of Vermeer s superb paintings in high- definition on the big screen for the first time ever.

For four screenings only, on 26, 27, 30 and 31 October, the film releases exclusively at Cinema Nouveau theatres in South Africa.

Vermeer and Music: The Art of Love and Leisure, which focuses on the exhibition staged at The National Gallery in London, offers a fresh look at one of the most fascinating artists of all Johannes Vermeer, painter of the famous Girl with a Pearl Earring.

The National Gallery has chosen to focus on Vermeer s relationship with music, as it is one of the most popular themes of Dutch painting and reveals a lot about the sitter and the society in which they lived. New research, revealed for the first time at this exhibition, shows how his technique and materials affected his works.

Host Tim Marlow goes beyond the exhibition to tell the entire story of Vermeer s life and, in doing so, shows in HD detail many other of the artist s captivating works.

Multi award-winning arts documentary maker Phil Grabsky comments about the new Vermeer production: Vermeer and Music from the National Gallery in London is finally finished and ready to be enjoyed in cinemas around the globe. Even if you don t want to listen to a word of narrative, I do recommend that you make your way to a comfy cinema seat and revel in the wonder of Vermeer s brushwork.

It s easy to throw terms like greatness and genius around but they really do apply to this extraordinary 17th century Dutch artist. Some worry that because he left no correspondence behind him, there s little to say. Far from it, his life story can be pieced together like a fabulous detective novel. I really can t urge you highly enough to turn the smart phones off for 90 minutes and indulge in some of the finest paintings ever made.

Marlow, echoing Grabsky s comments, adds: I think that standing face to face with some of the greatest works of art ever made is one of the most powerful experiences in life. EXHIBITION ON SCREEN gives us the opportunity to convey something of this power in a cinematic format which brings the viewer as close to the real thing as possible.
