We go through a list of four popular doppelgangers (aka evil twins) from Gugu/Nomasonto in Muvhango, Charmaine/Vivian and Alexa/Amanda in 7de Laan to Zoleka/Zinzi in Generations.

Doppelgangers are a fan-favourite standard soapie plot device after paternity secrets and secret babies.

Sthandiwe Kgoroge as Zoleka in Generations'. Image via Twitter @ZAlebs We were first introduced to doppelgangers Zinzi and Zoleka in Generations, then Charmaine & Vivian and Amanda & Alexa in 7de Laan and now Gugu & Nomasonto in Muvhango.

Generations introduced Zoleka's evil twin Zinzi in the 90s played by Sthandiwe Kgoroge who kept us glued to the screen and put a complete spin on the storyline as she was married to one of the mighty Morokas.

She left the limelight after exiting the SABC1 soapie to work for government and became a government official, according to a ZAlebs article.

Muvhango introduced viewers to its first doppelgangers Gugu and Nomadonto this year (2022) after more than two decades.

Viewers are glued to the screen after the least-favorite character Gugu's doppelganger Nomasonto kidnapped her.

Nomasonto plans to move to Thate with her boyfriend - Azwindini (Gabriel Temudzani) and live her life.

Though it is unclear from the March and April TVSA teasers how long Nomasonto is going to hijack her life, we know it never ends well for the twin sister.

Viewers believe Nomasonto won't get away with kidnapping Gugu (Bukamina Cebekhulu) because she doesn't know about her previous relationship with Azwindini's son - Vutshilo.

People will notice that there's a screw loose especially when she has to step into Gugu's shoes as CEO at MMC and her daughter's mother.

The Laanies once got treated to not one, but two doppelganger characters Charmaine & Vivian and Amanda & Alexa played by the talented Vinette Ebrahim and Carina Nel respectively.

Ebrahim exited 7de Laan in July of 2019 and has since appeared in telenovelas such as Legacy and The Estate.

She revealed in an interview with YOU:

I'm so lucky to be playing both roles. It's a huge challenge.

When I saw where the character was going and then when they introduced Vivian, it just felt right.

I'm crazy about her [Vivian] because I've been playing the role of a goody-two-shoes for so long.

And deep within me, I had the yearning to play a role in which I could be rough and ready. Then came the part of Vivian.

Fan-favourite actress Carina Nel also showcased her talents as Amanda who was Justin Meintjies lover and baby mama.

Her doppelganger had a miscarriage and later fell pregnant again with Justin's baby and both exited Hillside to Ireland.
