In early December 2024, the Resillion team, in partnership with the NERC DTV team, hosted an eventful week-long tour across China. The delegation included distinguished representatives from PearlTV, led by Managing Director Anne Schelle, and ATSC, represented by Board Chair Richard Friedel. This collaborative journey underscored the shared mission of ensuring the success of the NEXTGEN TV (ATSC 3.0) logo and fostering innovation within the global television manufacturing landscape.
The vision behind the tour
ATSC, the Advanced Television Systems Committee, Inc. is an international, non-profit organisation developing voluntary standards for digital television. ATSC member organisations represent the broadcast, broadcast equipment, motion picture, consumer electronics, computer, cable, satellite and semiconductor industries.
PearlTV, a coalition of eight broadcast TV companies, has been instrumental in driving the development and deployment of NEXTGEN TV (ATSC 3.0).
Together, these organisations aim to revolutionise television with features such as HDR, Dolby Atmos and enhanced broadcast applications.
The China tour focused on engaging with key stakeholders in the TV supply chain, including motherboard and reference design companies, SoCs (System-on-Chips), ODMs (Original Design Manufacturers) and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers). By facilitating dialogue, the delegation sought to align efforts for developing high-quality, affordable solutions and ensure the success of the NEXTGEN TV logo in the US market. These discussions were timely as all parties are looking forward to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games, both of which will be hosted in North America.
Key highlights from the tour
The US representatives provided updates on US linear broadcast viewership trends and the ongoing deployment of NEXTGEN TV features. These insights sparked meaningful discussions with Chinese manufacturers, who were eager to contribute to the global advancement of the technology. The tour highlighted the growing interest in NEXTGEN TV, with significant opportunities to promote the device manufacturing logo worldwide.
